Standards for financial reporting

Suppose I have an app that supports selling and billing for items. If I want to present accounts receivable or other financial reports, are there any standards (ANSI? ISO? IAS?) or best practices for developing this sort of feature? Testing this feature? Formally auditing this feature? I'm not an accountant, and most accountants aren't programmers! I can't be unique in needing to do this, but I can't find any articles that seem to address it. Any help would be much appreciated!
