Why doesn’t Uber validate users via app?

When I get into an Uber the driver asks me my name. When someone else gets in the car they get asked their name. This form of user validation seems clunky for such a sophisticated app- why doesn’t my instance of the app send a notification to the drivers instance that I am indeed the Joe that ordered that particular Uber when I get in automatically. The app already has all instances connected to the web and GPS. Seems like a nice UX improvement- is it due to security reasons?
