Practical but effective way for 1 or 2 developers to create a mobile app from scratch

I came up with a project idea mainly for mobile and one of my friends also wants to contribute but just from a prgramming perspective. I can also code but I have practically zero knowledge or experience as a UI or UX designer and never created anything serious from scratch and also never worked at a company developing web, desktop or mobile apps.

I read about the MVP (Minimum Viable Product), wireframes, mockups and visual prototypes. I saw that creating wireframes, then mockups and then high fidelity prototypes are useful before coding begins. Do these things still make sense where none of us is a real designer? Should these steps be iterated and feedback based on the mockups/prototypes collected before we start coding the MVP? What would make sense to keep or maybe skip if there's just 2 programmers?

And in general, what steps, practical methods would you suggest for creating an MVP of an app from start to actually having the MVP running and ready to start testing our assumptions and gather feedback considering there's no real team with established roles?

Your feedback and advice is very much appreciated.
