[crosspost][rant] I passionately hate open office plans

My company is an open office plan.

I've been in the company for close to two years now.

During the course of the day,

my surrounding area gets so loud because of the chatter happening from

PMs, Designers, management, leads constantly debating, deciding, disagreeing, dreaming the next cool thing.

I can't focus. Slack messages are constantly asking for my attention.

Meanwhile, I'm supposed to build new features in very short timeframes.

While distraction abounds in the office. I have to leave every lunch and walk around to calm my senses.

Yeah I've realized I'm a total introvert. When I get home I have to just sleep or else my brain doesn't function.

I've never longed for silence and calmness as now.

I'm one of the most vocal opponent against open office plan in my company.

I know the leadership doesn't like my opinion, because whenever I raise it up,

leadership that generally are active in Slack generally stays silent.

Working in a loud open office plan is like asking me to solve calculus problems while at a sports game.

I end up choosing short-sighted solutions rather than deep well thought-out ones.

While I know the deadlines are far away, I constantly panic and decide not to add unit tests, and keep pushing code.

My most favorite hour is 5:30pm, because that's when the office becomes quiet enough.

Leadership wants to see a bustling energy, with constant chatter and "collaboration".

While I feel our company basically is putting introverts at a disadvantage.

I have this foggy brain when I work in the office – I no longer feel I'm thinking clearly.

I don't think I can continue working here, which is sad because I love my coworkers to death.

After a couple more months – I'm seriously going to work for another company.. one that has rooms for each developers, or cubicles. I'm done[edit] with open office.
