What were your reasons for moving from REST APIs to gRPC and how was the experience?

At my org we are in the process of porting our services from NodeJS and Python to Go. Recently we have been looking at gRPC and I was wondering what might be the advantages that might encourage such a move and the pitfalls that one needs to keep in mind while moving from REST to gRPC servers.

Would like to know the experiences of other devs who have been in a similar situation at their orgs with a focus on the development and the deployment experience not just the performance gains
