Moving from backend to AWS

Hey Guys, A bit of history about me – I have been working on backend for 6 years and in my current project the whole architecture is going to be on AWS. I will be using AWS for the first time. As a developer, where we used to build the backend ourself, I think using AWS takes away my opportunity to work towards the software scalability and performance. I feel like I will be going to make API calls/ configuring files and everything is going to be taken care by AWS. I know I am wrong, but I am not able to convince myself for the project. Any thoughts/motivation will be helpful here.
