Big companies uses microservices ? Are there better or equivalence alternatives ?

I'm new to software development and while I was reading I have came across examples like Amazon, Apple and many more big companies switch to microservices. I understand the advantages of microservices, but from the perspective of experts, is there any better approaches and why ?
