Arguments AGAINST version control?

I'd rather not go into the context, but my new boss has decided that we will be using git, but not creating any branches for WIP, rather we will be making every commit to Master. I have never heard this even suggested before, and it sounds ridiculous to me, but my boss has their reasons ("it causes more problems than it solves").

If you have ever worked in a dev team like this, or ever advocated for this process, could you please help me understand why this would be advantageous?
