Are developers as strong at coding and working under pressure as they used to be?

I'm an Agile avocate. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Once upon a time coding was the name of the game and developers were hackers working long hours, under pressure, sometimes as a team, trying to meet artificial deadlines set by managers who didn't care. This resulted in knowledge ramps and teams bonding.

With the advent of Agile developers should not be working long hours and deadlines are shorter and more frequent. Unless it's not really Agile.

I do believe developers are better developers than before as they see the value in quality more and are involved in definition, testing and deployment than they used to be.
