Help! Need advice on computer setup.

I'm urgently in need of a laptop on which I can run MSSQL, Visual Studio, and video conferencing software.

I'm a software developer seeking new employment and also an instructor at night. I have to give my work issued laptop back Friday, and I don't want to make a hasty decision. I have had the great pleasure of always using a work issued laptop since 2012.

I might want to put a video game on from time to time, but this will mostly be a development machine.

I am not wealthy, but I can comfortably spend $1000 today.

If you were setting me up, what would you recommend? I prefer laptop & dock combination but I'm open. How much RAM? Processor? Any other important specs? Also need info on antivirus needs, etc.
