Bibliography/References on Design Patterns for Users and Authentication

I'm working on a project that features users and subtypes of users, like business and individual. I'm not feeling a 100% confident because this is the first time I do anything more serious than tutorials or dummy examples we do in school.

So I was wondering if there existed a book or article from someone highly experienced in implementing these types of patterns.

It would also be nice to see if someone has all the pros and cons of the different implementations and how they would be linked to the different types of databases.

Does anyone know where I can find this info or will I be the billionth developer to recreate the wheel? (I hope it doesn't come out as a square xD)
