Hi! 🍻
Let's say you are given a project which involves using a new technology you don't know, a new framework for example. Do you think it's ok to learn new technologies at work while getting paid by your company? Or should your work only be building on the specific project during work and only learn during free time at home?
Here is my argument why you should be paid while learning: Since the software industry is constantly changing and demands that you learn, learning is a fundamental part of the work itself and the industry, therefore you should get paid for it. Otherwise the company shouldn't ask you to use that technology in the first place.
Sure, you could learn during your free time, but maybe all don't have the time or energy to learn after all work and of course many have a family, other hobbies and responsibilities and a life outside of programming.
What is your opinion on this?
Hope you're having a chill weekend.
