Free vs paid versions

I'm not sure if this belongs here so if it doesn't I apologise. In short, I'm developing an application to be deployed in businesses. As you can imagine it will be priced for businesses. That being said I would like to release a free version so that anyone could play around with it and provide recommendations and feedback. I HATE artificial limitations in products. Like I seriously hate it. You're making more work for yourself to produce a worse product. I can't release the full stable version of my software for free or no one would pay for the paid version. So I was thinking maybe I would release the development version for free for people to use. It won't be suitable in production due to it being unstable / buggy but it would be perfect for people to mess around with. Does this sound fair and make any sense or should I just stick with artificial software limitations.
