how Outlook works under the hood

I was wondering why each time you add a name to To or CC, the whole array of names re-renders? It's probably not as big of a deal as compared to a whole site refresh, but why re-render all the names when one more is added? My guess is they're all part of the same "html" element so one name update causes the whole element to refresh.
