Social media software

I have been coding in various different languages up to this point. Including html and CSS aswell. But the problem is I am not really sure how to go about making a social media website. I was wondering what you all would recommend for creating a social media site, and the different things that is needed to get started. I know that you will need a server to host all the information but I am not really even sure what that means. Can anyone give me a little bit of direction on what I need to learn or where to go to get started? Or any tips in general? I just cant seem to find a path
