Which position is “better,” principle QA or senior software engineer, and why?

I understand this is subjective. I think how people feel about the relative merits of these titles is actually the most important aspect of the titles secondary to the content of the position.

Assume the person that has to choose between these titles is ambivalent (meaning equally disposed to both, rather than meaning "indifferent") about the work involved in each position.
