What’s the point of standups?

I get that it's a twofold; reporting progress to Tech lead/Stakeholders, and raising issues/impediments.

What I never understood is, why not message the tech lead directly to report your progress? Why do I need to bore other team members with things unrelated to them? (and vice versa, as a BE engineer, I have no interest in a new map component the FE developer is using and its compatibility with angular 12)

Same with impediments, if I'm stuck on something (again, BE related) I don't think the FE , or BA will be able to help…I'm most likely to get help from the BE channel.

So, what value does standup bring by making me listen to other team members drone for 20 minutes about things unrelated to me?
