Graph Databases – love? hate? tools?

I'm looking to start a project and I need a DB – I was thinking this would be a good use case for a Graph DB but was hesitant because I don't have much experience with them. I've sandboxed a bit, but wanted more experienced opinions.

1. Problems? Headaches? Things that are missing? Tools that are missing?
2. Tools behind paywalls? Anything you love to use and can't live without?
3. Any other general thoughts on benefits/drawbacks would be helpful.
