Design Pattern ideas for flexible processes?

I am looking for design pattern ideas for a process that runs a series of smaller processes. A good way to visualize the main process is as a stack of strainers and each strainer is its own process. I am looking for a design pattern that allows engineers to plug in new strainers in a straight forward manner.
