What do you answer when someone asks “What do you do fo a living?” without being akward?

As a software developer sometimes I find it difficult to explain what do I do whitout confusing them. I try to explain it in a social accepted way but also I don't want to say that I spend all time in front of a computer "hacking stuff".

But also I want to let them know that my lifestyle is not "boring" .
