How do you measure developer velocity in an ongoing sprint?

This is specifically for experienced software engineers that regularly run sprints and manage a team of developers. Have you put any systems in place to figure out if your sprint is successful and you’re moving in the right direction while it is ongoing? Other than using a burndown chart, and talking to your team during stand-up meetings, what has been useful to capture/measure additional insights on sprint velocity?
