Understanding a weighty function

Hi all. I’m a junior dev. Just looking for advice in how to go about understanding a function that has about 10 child functions. Then each child function has their own x number of functions.

Any advice? My only recourse so far has been to write things down keeping a tree like mental map of all of the calls.
