Will ChatGPT pave the way for AI to take over software development?

I keep hearing developers (especially the experienced ones) say that AI will never be able to replace them in their lifetime. We've been hearing of AI since the last 30 years, they said. However, now we see an AI chatbot named ChatGPT has been developed which has been able to write code, sometimes even for specific problems.

Not only has this chatbot been able to write code, it can also debug and take tests as well

Given this development, is it still accurate to say that software development will never be taken over by AI, even in a minimal sense? Surely, this may pave the way for more advanced AI to be developed with even better capabilities?
