Is it normal to take 5 minutes to build in development?

I joined a new company and their React application takes several minutes to build.

I have to rebuild it every time I make a change. It’s like a torture.

I haven’t experienced this on any other projects. Is it common?

Should I look into Webpack optimisation or just let it be?
