Do you document testing?

For context, I'm on a team of about 15 developers, I've been on this team for about 10 years, and this project has been in development for several decades.

We have automated testing in place, but it doesn't catch everything, so we perform quite a lot of manual testing as well.

Our process is for the developer to first test their solutions, then for someone from our team of testers to also perform tests.

Part of that process is for the developer to document the tests they performed. I feel like this documentation is ultimately detrimental and have successfully lobbied for it to be removed from our process.

But I'm wondering if this is a common practice? As a developer, are you expected to document the testing you performed on the code you wrote?
