Discussion: Changing the perception towards software development teams

Back in 2011, when the I first started leading a team, I faced a situation that changed my perspective on communication. I believed, I had built an optimal process that was working well but a salesperson approached me and expressed her concern that the software development team was slow.
I decided to increase the frequency of status updates and this changed the salesperson's perception. Later, she told me that the team became "super fast". I did not change any methodology in our development methods (everything was the same as before), the only difference was the frequency of status updates.

Did you face a similar situation? If yes, what did you do?
