Selling software / code

(Disclaimer, my background isn't in software, just an engineer that wrote some code) Howdy folks, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this but I'd like your feedback anyways. I have built quite a bit of Python code that is designed for batch processing large quantities of data for video work. There is still quite a bit of work that needs to be done with it, but it is entirely functional on its own. It mostly just needs bells and whistles and a GUI since I'm sure it will be wanted. How could I go about selling this code or making money off of it besides uses for my own internal projects? I'm very inexperienced in this regard and would like your feedback. I've been told it would be better to sell hardware instead of software and to just throw the code in for free.
