I’ve been working at a bank for a little over 5 years and I’ve been feeling miserable and inadequate for the past year and a half.
Key issues I’ve noticed about myself, I’d like to know how you guys deal with similar situations:
-
Struggling with saying no/pushing back (regarding “under-the-table-tasks”) because you don’t want to seem like an a**hole that doesn’t care. • I’ve been working on this one heavily lately, but there’s a lot of situations where you’re low-key pressured to help despite not being on production support.
-
Being a “key-man dependency” • This actually speaks to point 1 (and yes I’ve tried circumventing this by bringing it up in a number of meetings and writing clear documentation/run-books.
-
Passive aggression from your manager. • I’m a bit socially awkward so I might’ve misinterpreted their sentiment.
-
Jokes made by the team at your expense about (usually minuscule) mistakes you made (work & personal) long ago.
-
Constantly being moved to new teams/squads/projects. • it’s the worst when the project that your team has been working on for a while gets shelved/deferred (usually due to forces outside of our control) • Getting up to speed with the new team/squad’s project(s) sometimes takes a bit of time but management/leadership don’t quite get that.
-
Having “beef” with your new manager despite having a good track record before them.
-
Family/personal life drama/issues while under loads of pressure on all fronts.
Thanks in advance!
