Is it possible to write a software such as this one?

As the question implies I am not a developer. I am trying to understand if the following is feasible and it can be accomplished simply by developing a software or requires also hardware integration.

I have two printers, one laser one inkjet, and for my needs I need to be able to tell each printer to use only a specific cartridge for printing (each printer has 4). I would like to do so from the standard Microsoft word printing window (>print > select print > properties) and in properties it opens what seems to be the printing setting of the printer.

Is this possible? Thanks
