Not Inviting Developers to Sprint Planning (And More)

I have been working at an American corporation for about a year. Recently, they fired our manager. Our PM has been on leave (or fired?) for many months. During this one year, I now have a third skip manager. One of the (team's) developers also left the company during that period.

My team leader is toxic. They are more of a politician than a technical head. Just today, I saw that there's a sprint planning meeting on the calendar (the first one since I started working here). The team leader invited the skip manager only half of the developers. Is this a red flag? What should I do?

Recently, I've been thinking more and more about changing my job. To me, it seems toxic, toxic as f!@k! The most toxic person is my team leader. Here are a few things that I consider toxic (or even mobbing):

  • Gatekeeping: Most decisions happen behind closed doors.
  • Gaslighting: Every time I struggle with a task, I hear "it's easy," and it's not just me.
  • No Feedback: I created a lot of RFCs and didn't get any feedback on them or just "we don't need that."
  • Attributing Words That Were Not Said: For example, during a company event, in front of several teams, my TL once said, "I thought that was you who said <a sentence that could be considered sexual harassment>." I don't want anyone in the company to think I could say such a thing to a coworker, as it suggests I could commit sexual harassment.

And more…

The company pays pretty well, and I am invested in improving the software, I enjoy that. But the toxicity is starting to outweigh the money. Is every corporation that pays well this toxic?
