Where is the port “located”? (as in memory, storage, etc)

My first inclination is that the port refers to a bit representation to somewhere in memory. Http requests are sent to an address with the header repesenting the port number. The protocol checks the memory part where the port refers to and sees if its being occupied. I guess it's all an abstraction but I'm trying to see where it is physically in the CPU or RAM…
