I want to try and quantify the financial benefits of adding VCS to our development teams.
I'm somewhat familiar with the benefits of VCS and there's certainly plenty of such information available to point to. I also don't think that the decision makers in my company are unconvinced by the concept. However, I'm struggling to quantify the benefits financially.
My first thought was to look at time wastage through reviews, technical debt etc. However, the measures and controls for good estimation here are also lacking.
I assume however, that other companies have costed this before and was expecting to find some indication of typical savings per developer hour or the like. Even with huge error bounds this would be a huge step forward in being able to assess the value of implementation.
I have the opportunity to influence the next year's budget and want to be able to add this understanding to the reccomendations. Any help in finding some figures would be hugely appreciated.
TIA
