I need to know what I need to know in order to make a PDF viewer (primarily for Linux) using MuPDF.

I need to know what software/technology I need to learn to accomplish the aforementioned task. Right now I know C and some C++. I want it to be a minimally featured (can show bookmarks and content table), gui based application. And I will be using MuPDF (I've downloaded its source code). I don't know anything about 'software libraries'. I would be grateful if anyone can point me to the right direction. Thanks.
