New to software development looking for help

Hello, Im wanting to change careers to something in IT. Right now I’m stuck between either software developer or cyber security. Im 35 and completely new to both but i find all of it very interesting. If anyone doesn’t mind answering questions about software development that would be very helpful. I don’t want to begin classes for software developer until I know for sure. Thanks
