Why is GPL considered a risk for licensing?

I understand that it’s open source but what’s the downside in terms of creating a product.

For example, say I want to create a product (for sale) but also use GPL. What’s the downside. Do I have to publicize I’m using GPL to the world? If so, is that a risk?
