Creating a Database Linked to Facebook’s Friendslist for Privacy

This is a shot in the dark, but I had an idea for a site with a universal registry for a particular thing that people can input something into and then their friends and family could see it, but it would be nice to have the option to only have your data visible by friends. Without re-inventing a social network around the idea is it possible to interface it with Facebook for example to only be visible to friends or certain groups? Sorry is this is too conceptual for the sub, I'm not a programmer.
