Guitar practice tool

Hey there, im gonna start this off by saying ive got next to no experience with anything like this but i defenitely wanna learn. Anyways, I'm looking to make a program to help me learn the notes for guitar. The concept is that the screen displays a note, I then play that note on my guitar, and when I play the correct one, it moves on to the next. There's other things that would be nice to add, especially with cosmetics, but that's the least of my concerns. If anyone knows how I could do this, or at least where I could start, It's all be very appreciated
