Looking for advice. Protecting ideas for software prior to discussing

I have an idea for a software/hardware package. The problem is I don’t know where to proceed or how to proceed with it. There’s currently no one doing the product I’m looking for. But there are similar things. I’m afraid that if I either speak to one of the hardware or software developers that are doing comparable things that will be easy for them to just absorb and take over the idea. How do I protect myself prior to moving forward?
