New computer suggestions

Hello everyone!

I will be graduating in May of 2023 with my degree in software development, and would like to get myself a nice graduation gift. I've been using my old reliable HP computer for a while, and I don't think the old girl has much time left in her. Now, since this is going to be a pretty expensive gift I want to make sure it will be able to accommodate all my needs. With that being said I would love to know what yall would recommend to someone who's just starting out in this field.

Should I build my own custom PC? Should I buy a higher quality laptop?
