I recently finished reading this book, Code Simplicity, which contains a series of definitions, facts, rules, and laws for software development that help you write simpler and more maintainable software. I think it's a valuable resource for developers at any level. I was able to understand it and get a lot out of it despite being a beginner programmer.
Even just reading Appendix A and B would be very worthwhile because it lists every major piece of information in the book and labels it clearly as a law, a rule, a definition, or just a plain-old fact.
It was written by Max Kanat-Alexander, who is currently a principal engineer at LinkedIn and also used to be a senior engineer at Google. It's available for free download here: Code Simplicity Book PDF
