What is the Provider Pattern?

I have read differing definitions on the Provider Pattern. I have seen different examples of the Provider Pattern. And I am unsure which ones are accurate. What do folks here think the Provider Pattern is? Is it even a pattern at all? Is it just using different implementations of the same interface? In that case, I have been using Provider Pattern all these years without knowing it.
