Surface laptop 4 or M1 for software dev and uni work

I am currently deciding on which laptop to buy and I am stuck between these 2 options

Mc Surface Laptop 4 Ryzen 5 4680U 16Gb 256GB

M1 Macbook air 13 inch 8Gb Ram

While I despise apple on their anti repair stance and never want to spend a dime on their products I am in love with the Surface Product line and windows with a chance of linux dual boot would be my choice but I will simply have to buy the M1 laptop if its the best option for coding in my 900USD budget range.

Im a 2nd year software engineering student and I will use the laptop for Coding, uni work and some light media consumption and main buying point will be battery time and these use cases.
