Is there a “database” that’s built entirely of distributed client-side processing on top of NFS v4 as the backing store?

Totally understanding the pitfalls of such an architecture, but hey has anybody ever attempted it?

In a distributed client-server environment, is there a database where all the processing happens in the client-side libraries, while the "database server" is a straight-up NFS fileserver?
