Organising development for enterprise solutions

I work for a large ISV and we're in the process of looking at how to transform the business from creating a whole load of independent software products to a more consistent enterprise portfolio solution. The question I'm struggling with is what a development organization looks like in this kind of scenario. How do you promote autonomy in the development teams whilst also delivering consistency in the end user solution/experience. I'm interested in whether anyone has any thoughts and experience here in how large corporations such as Microsoft, Salesforce etc organise their teams.
