Clinic management app

Well, I own a small business and I use a payed software to manage all my client logs and all information..

I was thinking if it would be possible to setup a NAS, and make somehow a small software to be able to manage all that info without having to pay that annual fee for the software.

And what would be the best software to develop something capable of managing the client logs?
