gateway timeouts

I'm working on a project where I expose an endpoint (/api/model) to which making a POST request starts the model training. Now training of models can take lot of time and by the time the results are available the response that is sent is resulting in gateway timeouts. How can I fix this issue? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
