Directly hiring an overseas developer.

I just started my company as the sole developer, I have several clients who need custom versions of software and need some programs developed from scratch that I personally cannot keep up with the demand. I have thought about hiring a outsourcing company to help me but they seemed outside my budget. I’ve been thinking of hiring someone directly overseas from an ad I’ve posted on indeed (Africa). Has anyone had experience hiring a developer from overseas? If so, is there anything I need to consider while doing this? Obviously this is my first time ever hiring anyone so any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
