Boss asks for a progress update every morning, after giving an update the previous day at end of day

Does he expect me to be working after work hours? How can I explain to him that I will not have made any progress since the previous evening…? Is this just typical corporate bullshit where if they keep saying it, eventually I might start working late at night? I'm just flabbergasted. Then he has the audacity to act kinda snide when I say nothing's been done since the previous evening. Ugh.
