So I left my previous company a year ago in search of something new. they actually ran a pretty competent team but the product was terrible it was never gonna be used.
I landed in the complete opposite situation… the product is live and is successful enough. But we’ve got a PM that doesn’t write requirements of really any fashion, he says one deadline then next week present a timeline totally different. The backlog is basically a mess of random dev created story’s more like tasks we just add a title and points. I go into standup saying I need more work and never get assigned a project.
My manager is a former engineer for this team and sees nothing wrong same with our lead. It causes all sorts of issues we’ve had people without work several times, people working on the same story and didn’t know it. Iv presented several times during our “knowledge sharing” meeting about making some small changes like actually pointing as a team or having stories with requirements and acceptance criteria. But it’s mostly met with indifference like “that sounds great” but non of the people with power actually help illicit the change.
There’s other problems (cicd, git) but I hope this painted the hell I’m in right now. I like the company and the product so I’d hate to leave again chasing the perfect team and product.
I guess I’m looking for someone that has been here and turned it around, if that’s even possible. Or do I need to stop bitching and just assimilate?
TLDR; I’m on a team I like working with and I like that the product is successful. But the PM has no idea how to actually run agile and the leaders of the team seem indifferent. Even though it severely hampers the team. Has anyone been here and somehow turned it around?
